About Us
Since 1994, we’ve been building relationships.
Since its founding, The Wonder of Reading has
become one of the largest children’s literacy organizations in Los
Angeles. We are a trusted partner, able to work inside the public
school district while maintaining the outside autonomy to innovate.
The Wonder of Reading’s relationships are broad and deep, bringing
together leaders from the academic community on district and state
levels, professionals in elementary school education and administration,
experts in child literacy and advocacy, and thousands of committed
community volunteers. With an approach that is truly unique, innovative,
and comprehensive, The Wonder of Reading brings key leadership to
children’s literacy efforts.
Since 1994, The Wonder of Reading has:
• Renovated 206 Libraries
• Trained more than 5,000 Literacy Mentors
• Served more than 130,000 Children
“The kids light up … they appreciate the
library — they’re invested in it. The librarian
can show them a new genre of reading that they’ve
never been introduced to. It’s a complete blessing.”
